The importance of tourism in Turkey's economy
The economic and political policy of today's Turkey is modernized and open to the rest of the world. The march toward liberalization began in the 1950s, but it began in earnest in the 1980s when reforms began to be made. The Turkish economy runs on the basis of supply and demand, foreign trade, and competition. It is seeing rapid growth in all sectors, especially the tourism sector.
Industry is the most important sector of the Turkish economy, and it is instrumental in further development. After the liberalization movement, it showed a high level of growth, with production eventually reaching worldwide standards. Key industrial subsectors are the electronics, automotive, sugar and iron/steel industries.
Tourism is a very large sector of the Turkish economy. The country has been blessed with many historical sites and natural assets, making it an ideal center for tourism. Opportunities abound for vacationers of every sort, due to the climatic and geographical characteristics of Turkey. Investments in resort tourism are maximizing those characteristics.
Another large tourism investment center is the infrastructure for the training of service personnel. More trainees mean more employees for resorts and other tourist spots, meaning more money put into other sectors of the Turkish economy. As a result of the above efforts, Turkey has been able to better provide for the needs and wishes of tourists from a variety of countries.
